10 Tips To Help Uplift Your Energy When You Are An Exhausted Mom

Being a mom is a full-time job and extremely tiring. I have two kids under 3 and I fail to function as a normal human being on most days. The constant sleepless nights, feeding, changing, dealing with toddler tantrums – it’s a lot to handle!

I personally struggle to keep up with consistent self-care. I am always conscious of fulfilling the family’s need that I end up neglecting myself. However, I have started making small changes which have been extremely beneficial to my energy levels, helping me deal with the daily chaos, and helping me to be a productive mom every day!

PS: You can uplift your energy without coffee – here’s how:

1.DO A SMALL ACT YOU CHERISH, EVERY DAY

It probably sounds pathetic as you are extremely exhausted as it is, but doing something to cherish yourself every day will make you feel human. I promise!

A small act can be doing a face-mask, making sure you apply your night cream daily by setting a timer, spraying your favourite perfume every day, applying minimal makeup – anything that is solely focused on making you happy and cherishing YOURSELF.

I personally love doing face masks as a small act to cherish myself because I love having a good skincare routine. Some of my favourite masks are:

Garnier Tissue Masks

2. GET OUT OF YOUR PYJAMAS

This seems like absolute bleu, but it is important to dress up every day, even if you are a SAHM.

How you dress every day reflects upon your energy, your motivation to get things done and inspires you to be productive. When you are chilling in your PJs, you will continuously feel lethargic, lazy and demotivated to get anything done.

Just by starting off small, from changing your top and brushing your hair, the small differences will add up and you will see an enormous difference and uplift in your energy.

Now, I’m not saying you should glam up, because as an exhausted mom you barely have time to look in the mirror, I know that! But just making small consistent changes will help you to feel energetic over time.

Note: If you are lethargic to the point that you struggle to even get out of bed and feel consistently blue, anxious and demotivated regardless of your day-to-day changes, then you may be suffering from an underlying mental health issue. Do consult with a professional medical team if that is the case.

3. EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST

When you’re tending to your family’s need, the temptation to just grab some coffee and call it a day is very real. In fact, many moms feel that they cannot function without coffee and skip eating healthy meals altogether.

Don’t do that!

Part of having a lack of energy has a lot to do with the nutrition that you put into your body. Eating a healthy diet with a balance of all the essential nutrients will give you the energy you need to tackle your daily responsibilities.

Many times, mothers are focused on feeding everyone but themselves and end up relying on caffeine which can cause spurs of energy and then slump down. Just like a rollercoaster, your energy will consistently dip up and down and your body starts relying on caffeine for energy rather than healthy, nutritious food.

Focus on eating healthy – it doesn’t necessarily mean breaking the budget. A simple fruit salad, some greek yoghurt topped with fruit, oatmeal with fruit toppings, eggs on toast – there are plenty of easy, fast and simple healthy breakfast options which can give you the energy boost which you need while running after your kids!

4. ARRANGE A SPA DATE FOR YOURSELF

Pampering feels like a ridiculous luxury when you have small kids who make you feel exhausted at every moment. The thought of going to a spa only feels like a dream, but it shouldn’t be!

Just because you’re a mom, doesn’t mean you need to give up basic pampering – it’s for your sanity momma!

Once in a while having a spa break can rejuvenate you from within which can uplift your energy, help to de-stress your body, detoxify you and make you feel like a new person.

Sometimes, many mothers can suffer from anxiety due to constant stress and environmental factors which makes them nervous to work up the courage to go to the spa. It can even stem from having low self-confidence issues, especially with their postpartum bodies.

Take the time out to arrange a “spa” date for yourself and pamper yourself because you deserve this!

Alternatively, if you don’t feel confident enough to go to the spa, you can arrange for a “spa” like experience at home!

Some products you can have to get the spa experience at home include:

Facial Steamer – KINGA Nano Ionic Facial Steamer Home Facial SPA

MaxKare Foot Spa Massage – Stress Relief

If you feel confident within your own home, set up the spa within your home with a scheduled date, send your kids over to the grandparents and take the time out to pamper yourself and relax!

5. PRE-SCHEDULE “ME” TIME

This ties in closely with having a “spa” date, however, the key difference is that “me” time is something you should do every day, even if it’s a minute thing.

For example. My “me” time is when my kids are napping and I work on my blog content. I particularly enjoy creating Canva pin templates and I find it therapeutic!

That is my “me” time!

Similarly, you should pre-schedule a “me” time to do every day in order to overcome the exhaustion you feel from your daily routine and responsibilities. It will help you with the heaviness you feel on your mind consistently.

6. FIND A HOBBY YOU LOVE & DO IT EVERYDAY

What makes people happy the most is following their passion. Many people are passionate about things but put it to aside due to career and family responsibilities which makes them lose a part of themselves.

Having a hobby which ignites the passion within you is essential to keeping your energy alive. Many times exhaustion occurs from our daily burdens which do not necessarily bring any joy to our lives.

Whether it’s reading, painting or blogging, be sure to find something you are passionate about and dedicated time towards it every day, even if it’s just 15 minutes.

7. MAKE FRIENDS WITH MOMS AND HANG OUT WITH THEM

Nothing is worse than feeling lonely as an exhausted mom. Seeing other people enjoying their lives kids-free and then missing your old life at the moment feels terrible.

It’s okay to admit that you miss your life pre-kids. You can’t be a perfect loving mother at all times, we are human at the end of the day.

However, if you make friends with moms, from playgroups, local neighbours or meet people online who can relate to you, then it will make you feel better, and certainly less exhausted.

Why? Because you can relate with each other about sleepless nights and unshaved legs for 3 months. It will make you feel less mad and more perfectly normal Mumma!

8. ASK FOR HELP – DON’T BURDEN YOURSELF

Being a mom in itself is a huge responsibility, especially when you are also working, whether it’s a job you travel to or working from home. Sometimes, you can get worked up by the amount of responsibility you have on your head which you choose to tackle alone.

You are a mom – that makes you a superwoman from day 1 already.

When you are feeling exhausted, many time it’s your body telling you to calm down and take a sit back for a while. Ask for help when you need it because having good health is important to prevent exhaustion and burnout.

Whether it’s hiring a cleaner, getting help from family or friends or your partner, ask for help without any shame or guilt!

9. DO SOME EXERCISE

When you’re exhausted, the last thing you want to do is exercise. I get it.

However, exercise is extremely crucial in boosting your levels of serotonin up and making you feel energized, strong and fit over time.

Being unfit from a lack of exercise, or eating an unhealthy diet can make you feel lethargic constantly. By implementing physical activity in small steps, you can ensure to regain some much-needed energy!

10. TAKE MULTIVITAMINS

Sometimes, regardless of your responsibilities, healthy diet & exercise regime, you can still feel exhausted. It may be a sign of nutritional deficiencies such as low levels of iron, or a lack of vitamin B6.

It is best to get a professional opinion on your health & wellbeing and see if trying multivitamins out can have an impact upon your health and help to uplift your energy as an exhausted mom!
