A good skincare regime is crucial to achieving and maintaining healthy skin, however, not everyone can afford to splash out on high quality products to achieve the skin they want.

Cleanse Your Face

This may sound so basic, yet it’s so important. Cleansing your face regularly ensures to keep the skin fresh and ready to absorb any product which is applied onto it. Much bacteria gets transferred to our face from day to day activities, so to keep it clean is important.

It’s not necessary to buy fancy cleansing products to keep your skin clean. You need to determine what type your skin is and use products accordingly.

Best Cleansers for Dry Skin:

Cetaphil 236ml Gentle Skin Cleanser

This cleanser is gentle on the skin, perfect to help clean the skin without making it too tight or sensitive. It doesn’t foam up too much which helps prevent the skin from drying out after washing and drying. Also, excellent for individuals who suffer from acne as it takes into account skin sensitivity.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser Water Gel 200 ml

This cleanser is excellent as it’s water based so it doesn’t dry out the skin, rather it locks in the moisture which is essential for dry skin, especially in hot weather conditions! It is excellent in help removing oil, makeup and dirt without feeling harsh on the skin, which many cleansers do.

NIVEA Sensitive Face Cleansing Milk, 200 ml, Pack of 3

This face cleansing product is an all-time hit due to it’s effectiveness at cleansing the face. It is gentle and doesn’t cause irritation, redness or dryness. It contains Dexpanthenol & grapefruit and is also free from parabens, colours and perfume. One of the best cleansers for ladies on a budget!

Best Cleansers for Oily Skin

Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser Face Wash for Oily Skin, 200 ml

This product is a game changer when it comes to reducing the appearance of your pores. It helps with skin sensitivity and also perfect for girls who have oily/combination skin and wear makeup often. It helps to reduce the size of your pores and cleanses your skin thoroughly.

Pure Active Gel Cleanser Oily Skin 200ml

This gel cleanser is very delicate yet works like a charm. It helps to reduce redness from scars and cleanses the face without stripping off too much oil which makes the skin more prone to breakout.

Exfoliate Your Skin

Exfoliating is essential for cleaning the skin out deeply. Our skin is exposed to pollution, harmful bacteria and hormonal effects from within. It is essential to exfoliate regularly to keep the skin free from extra oil, and bacteria which can cause breakouts.

Home Remedies for Exfoliating Dry Skin

1 tbsp yoghurt, 1tbsp gram flour & 1 tsp honey – Mix it together and make it a paste. Apply it on your face and scrub lightly. Leave on for 5 minutes and wash off. Use this remedy 2-3 times a week to exfoliate your skin, without drying it out.

Mix together 1 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp coffee grounds (instant or used coffee beans is fine.) Scrub the mixture on wet skin for few minutes, then thoroughly rinse off. Moisturise the skin with coconut oil after exfoliation.

Home Remedies for Exfoliating Oily Skin

1 tbsp gram flour, 1 tsp oatmeal, 1tbsp yoghurt, 1 tsp honey. Mix together to form a thick paste and scrub gently on the skin using circular motions to help deep cleanse your pores.

1 egg white, 1tsp honey, 1tbsp pink salt. Mix together and apply on face. Wait for the egg white to start drying, then rub in circular motion to exfoliate the skin thoroughly.

Moisturisers

Applying moisturiser is essential after exfoliation, due to the skin drying out. It is also important for people with oily skin to help control excessive oiliness, especially in the t-zone.

Some of my favourite moisturisers:

NIVEA Soft Moisturising Cream for Face, Hands and Body, 500 ml

This cream is one of my all time favourites! It moisturises the skin thoroughly even with a small application. Also, I find that it works best as a primer-type product on dry skin. It helps prevent make-up from tightening on the face. It’s also extremely budget friendly which is a bonus!

Cyclax Nature Pure Oil of Evening Primrose Night Cream

I saved the best to last. This cream is my ULTIMATE moisturiser and has been for over 7 years. Although it is a night cream, this works excellent for dry skin and only requires a tiny amount to deeply moisturise the skin. The evening primrose oil deeply moisturises the skin and leaves it extremely smooth. It also helps to prevent pimple breakouts – I have experienced this myself several times over the years when I used to go to college. The product is also not tested on animals.

Using SPF Every Day is Crucial

SPF helps to protect the skin from UVB and UVA rays. It is essential to apply sunscreen every day, regardless of season. This is because the skin is exposed to harmful pollution and chemicals every day in this day and age, so to be protected at all times is essential.

Some budget friendly SPF sunscreens include:

Ambre Solaire Ultra-Hydrating SunCream SPF 50+ 200ML

This suncream is very hydrating and perfect for dry skin users. In addition, having SPF 50 for the price of £4.50 is absolutely amazing. The product is also non-greasy, water resistant and made with skin-nourishing shea butter which helps to smooth out the skin too.

Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen SPF 50 – high UVA protection, 100 ml (2 x 100 ml)

One of my all time favourites, Altruist Sunscreen is very effective in protecting the skin from UVB/UVA rays. The formula is also non-greasy and contains SPF 50. I love the motto behind the product, that spf and sunscreen should be affordable as it is the most essential product which should be used on the skin daily.

This sums up the budget friendly summer skincare routine ladies! It is essential to have a self-care routine not only for optimal health and skin, but also to feel confident in your natural skin.

It doesn’t always have to cost a fortune to have a self-care routine!

  1. Really uselful tips that I need to use to make notes on! I am quite guilty of not treating my skin well and I think in fact that I am paying the price for it now.
    Hopefully its not too late.

  2. The charcoal cleanser is so refreshing and really helps scrub away impurities! I am a huge fan of it. Also, SPF lotions are essential, not just the sunscreen ones. A lot of lotions have those now, even for the winter months.

    Great tips!

  3. Yes, this is definitely me! I’m 30 and I’ve only recently started wearing sunblock on my face daily. I’m hoping the damage isn’t already done to my skin! I’m super cheap, especially when it comes to myself, so these are great suggestions!
